Rochester Poets – Free Speech Zone

These photographs are from Free Speech Zone poetry readings hosted at the Tango Cafe by the Rochester Poets every Tuesday at 8PM ET.
Rochester Poets was founded in 1922 as the Rochester chapter of the Poetry Society of America. It is the oldest ongoing poetry and literary organization in the upstate New York region.

Ron was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States in 1959 at the age of 13. In 1969 Ron graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles with a BA in Anthropology and a commission as a Supply Corps Officer in the United States Navy Reserve. He served as a Supply Officer on the USS CAMDEN (AOE-2) which replenished most of the ships in the Tonkin Gulf. As a returning Viet Nam veteran, he attended California State University at Long Beach and earned a Master’s of Science in Industrial Psychology. Through his educational career Ron was admitted to 3 honor societies. While at Cal State Long Beach, Ron met Cindy Taylor in Motivation and Emotion class. After first meeting with the question “Would you like to study for Midterms?” they married 6 months later. She is also a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and together, Ron and Cindy, are enjoying their second family of dogs. Cindy and Ron have been a team since 1973 and they work well together to accomplish their goals.

Ron is a member of the Rotary Club of Scotts Valley. He first became aware of Rotary when his father, a member of the Rotary Club of Placentia, asked him, while attending college, to be a program at a Rotary meeting. Several years later Ron joined the Rotary Club of Cambria Pines and has been an active enthusiastic Rotarian since 1977. Ron has been a member of 5 Rotary Clubs:

He has been the Community Service Chair for District 5170 for 3 years, 2000-2003. He was the Assistant District Governor for Area 7 in 1999-2000. Since 1999 he has been actively involved with Project Share Life which is the District’s Bone Marrow Registry Project. He was President of the Rotary Club of San Lorenzo Valley 1986-1987 and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.
