“Service above self” is a way of life for Bob.  He is currently Chairman of the Citizen Oversight Committee for the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District as well as being a member of many civic organizations.  In Southern California he was a Trustee of the South Pasadena Unified School District for 12 years, serving two terms as President. He was also active in many leadership roles including Boy Scouts, Little League, PTA Booster Clubs and various scholarship programs.  Bob was South Pasadena’s Distinguished Citizen for 1993.

Marge, Bob’s wife, has also been very active in community and youth activities.  She was a special education teacher for over twenty years.  Marge was honored by the Tahoe City Rotary Club with a Paul Harris Fellowship for her civic activities. The Hartsfield’s have four children and 15 grandchildren.

Bob Hartsfield has been a Rotarian for over 35 years with three Rotary Clubs.  For the past four years he has been a member of the Tahoe City Rotary Club where he served in many leadership roles which includes being club president for 2001-02 year.  Bob started his Rotary experience with the Hermosa Beach Rotary Club. In 1970, he joined the South Pasadena Rotary Club and was president of their in 1989-90. Bob’s District 5190 activities include District Conference Chairman in 2000 and District Award Chairman in 2001.  Prior to moving to Tahoe he was active in many District 5300 positions in Southern California.

Bob is a graduate of the University of Colorado with a degree in finance and accounting.  After a short experience in banking and being a controller of a small company, he spent 30 years as assistant controller of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) where he handled all their Federal Financial activities.  After retiring in 1998, he moved to Tahoe and continued his community activities.
